The Watkins Award
The Watkins Award has established itself as the nation’s premier award for African American male high school seniors who represent the highest achievement in academics and athletics. The Award is emblematic of an extraordinary athlete, a bonafide scholar, and a person who has been recognized by prominent people in his community as a leader, volunteer, and community advocate.
Guest, Darryl Richard
Darryl Richard is a 2004 Watkins Award Honoree from Destrehan, Louisiana. He's a former 5 Star High School Football Player and Academic All-American who was the first African American Valedictorian of his high school. He graduated from Georgia Tech as an Academic All-American and also was another first as football player who graduated with a MBA by the time his athletic eligibility was over. Darryl was drafted in the NFL by the New England Patriots. He is a member of the College Hall of Fame in addition to other professional organizations. Darryl Richard is truly a bona fide Academic All-American Scholar Athlete.
